I've been working really hard on making our house a home. I want it to be clean, organized and cozy! I also want it to have some personality! So, last week I finally made something that I have been wanting for a while: a Monogram Burlap Yard Flag!
I first searched on Etsy for one that was simple but cute and I came up empty handed… quite honestly, I really wanted to make it myself! If I was going to buy though… here are a few I would have bought (click on the image to view the shop!)
and if I was going the non-monogram route…well, I may still buy this one in the next week or so:
So, I had some burlap leftover from making my dining room table runner and it was a perfect size for a flag.
To start: I found a large letter 'S' on google and printed it out—I made it a full page with little margins so it filled the entire page. I tried first just blowing up letters in Word but most fonts have a lot of empty space at the top of the letters so I went the .jpg route instead.
Then I measured out my new flag by using the old flag as a template. Easy peasy!
I laid the letter under the burlap and just started tracing & filling it in with my sharpie!
Then I used fusible webbing (like Stitch Witchery) to keep the edges held together and create a space at the top to run my flag through.
Then it was complete! It’s THAT easy! The project seriously took me about 15 minutes—that includes taking it outside and putting it in my front yard. It took less time than it took to write this post!
